BHRT (Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy)

Biodentical hormones are the exact molecular structure of the hormones that are produced in our body. However, the difference between bio identical hormones and synthetic hormones are that bio identical hormones are an exact replica of our own hormones, like a key that fits into a lock. You can think of the bioidentical hormone as the key that fits exactly into the lock, or receptor in our body. The key will turn and cause a positive response. Synthetic hormones are similar in structure, and may also fit into the lock, but the lock does not turn. So, they attach to the receptors in our body, but because they are not identical, the response in our body is not the same. They may even cause more disease. In essence, bioidentical hormones help prevent disease. They are what your body responds to naturally.

There are several symptoms of hormonal imbalances.

  • hot flashes
  • sleep disturbance
  • lack of energy
  • loss of libido
  • weight gain
  • anxiety/depression
  • pms
  • bloating
  • headaches
  • foggy thinking

At our office, we evaluate each patient individually to assess them for the specific hormones they may be deficient in and then prescribe the hormones they need. Bioidentical hormones are identical to those hormones produced in our body. Many of them are FDA approved but there are some that are compounded by accredited pharmacies that are made to order by a physician. They are usually compounded with specific amounts of hormone depending on the patients needs. The hormones may be estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, thyroid, and growth hormone. Our goal is to provide patients with healthy lifestyles and personal well-being.
Unlike many physicians that are prescribing other bioidentical hormone replacement therapy treatments, Dr. Castner brings an expertise to this field of medicine through her training with Dr. Erika Schwartz and following protocols instituted by the Bioidentical Hormone Initiative.  Dr. Castner is committed to aiding patients in living the best lives possible, free from the symptoms of menopause, perimenopause or andropause.
